Valentine Drawings

Pictured is Chromobacterium violaceum and Staphylococcus aureus shaped in a valentine-themed drawing. This drawing was done at a microbiology lab at Cepheid, Sunnyvale, CA. C. violaceum is a gram-negative, motile bacillus. It produces dark violet colonies due to the bacterium's natural production of violacein, which is a pigmented antibiotic. This organism is commonly found in water and soil from tropical and subtropical areas of the world.
