Golden bacterium - Micrococcus luteus

Organism: Micrococcus luteus, media: blood agar, colony: golden color. Micrococcus luteus is a Gram-positive, to Gram-variable, nonmotile, Coccus, saprotrophic bacterium that belongs to the family Micrococcaceae. M. luteus can produce a special pigment that is capable of absorbing wavelengths from 350 to 475 nano-meters. Therefore, the bacterium has been termed "super-sunscreen".
