New research has shown that infection-fighting white blood cells play a role in activating cancer cells and facilitating their spread to secondary tumors.
A study led by Dr. Lorenzo Ferri has found a new way by which cancer spreads in the human body. The role of white blood cells (leukocytes) in spreading cancer came from a wide-spread review of surgical data. This showed that where severe infection in cancer patients after surgery occurs, then this tends to result in a higher chance that patients will have the cancer return in the form of cancer metastasis.
