Sunday Blood Cell Challenge

Case:  36 years old male from Turkey, Alanya have been in fever for two weeks. He has headache and nausea as well. CRP is slightly evevated and basic blood count parameters are within the nreference limits. Peripheral blood smear was taken and the findings are in the image below.

What are the findings and what is your suggestion for diagnosis?

Correct answer: The most important finding is malaria plasmoids inside the red cells and suggested diagnosis is malaria.

Those two leukocytes are neutrophilic and eosinophilic granulocytes of course.

Can't see some of the details clearly, but I do see a couple of clear ring forms trophozoites of Plasmodium species. The one on the top left looks like it may have two chromatin dots. If so, I would say further testing to confirm P. falciparum malaria.

Having just one neutophil and eosinophil from the picture am seeing left me with not much clue. Having normal differential count I think the man is suffering from parasitic infection.

Malaria infection, possibly Plasmodium falciparum. Low platelets with normocytic hypochromic anemia.

Eosinofil means infection, i found 2 ringform tropozoit on eritrochyt. Probability the man suffer of malaria infection. Cmiiw

I saw two ring form infected erythrocyte that suggested maralia infection in this case.WBC in the left is neutrophil and the right one is eosinophil.

We can see the malaria parasit in the red blood cell.. diagnosis is malaria infection . To confirm species with the parasitologist.

My findings are trophozoites of the parasite plasmodium (ring form. Diagnosis wud be Malaria. To me the red cells also are hypochromatic...anaemia too
