Gene therapy hope for sickle cell Anti-sickling gene
A potential medical breakthrough that could
give hope to an estimated 90,000 sickle cell anemia or sickle cell
disease patients in the U.S. — sickle cell being a genetic blood
disorder of the red blood cells that mostly affects people of
sub-Saharan African descent — has been signaled by scientists at UCLA as
a stem cell gene therapy moves towards clinical trials.
