Saturday Parasite Quiz

Case: 48 years old engineer from Germany has been working 6 months in Nanning, China. After returning to Germany he has lost his appetite and has been suffering abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Stool specimen was taken and the findings are in the image. The length of the particles is 32 micrometers.

Can you identify these particles?


























CORRECT ANSWER: Clonorchis sinensis or Opisthorchis sp. ova. The ova of Opisthorchis sp. are slightly smaller than those of Clonorchis sinensis, but there is significant overlap and it is not usually possible to differentiate those two.
