Sunday survey - Peripheral Blood Cell Morphology

Haematology challenge

Case: 22 years old librarian from Slovak Republic has felt herself weak for several weeks. Now she has fever and abdominal pain. Basic blood count shows slightly elevated leukocytes and haemoglobin is 118 g/L. Blood smear was requested and the findings are in the image below.

What are the findings?



CORRECT ANSWER: Normal findings, nothing special. Monocyte (top) and two lymphocytes (bottom). Erythrocyte morphology within normal range.
